The Brantford Lapidary and Mineral Society organize field trips in conjunction with the CCFMS. In addition many of our members venture out on their own to discover the many amazing rocks and minerals available to the enterprising rockhound.
Organized fieldtrips include going to:
: Arkona to search for Devonian age fossils and viewing the excellent museum located at Hungry Hollow.
: Dundas Quarry to obtain amazing blue celestine, fluorite cubes, sphalerite, bitumen and galena specimens.
: Marmora to find magnetite, dogtooth calcite, garnet, peridot, pyrite and so much more.
: ST. Mary’s Cement an awesome place to find fossils like Trilobites, Crinoids, Cephalopods, Corals, Bryozoans, Graptolites,Ostracods,,Pelecypods and Brachiopods
Our club and the CCFMS long with other CCFMS clubs are continually organizing interest and fun field trips for all our members. So please join the club and join in the fun.

Just a reminder to let you know of the upcoming Field Trip to Beamsville Nelson Aggregates on Saturday May 14th, 2022 has been confirmed. This is a week later than in previous years as the CMMA Symposium was moved a week later.
Safety Vest (fluorescent with X on the back), Long Pants, Safety Boots (steel toed) above the ankle 6” + not shoes as they provide support when walking on the rock piles), Safety Glasses and Hard Hat are required for admittance to the Quarry. Gloves are highly recommended
Sunscreen and plenty of water as days could be hot and Sunny on the trip.
Please do not bring carpenters hammers (claw) as they are not designed to break rock.
Nelson Aggregates requires that All persons on the property be double vaccinated against Covid. No exceptions. Proof will be asked for.
All attendees must be a member of a CCFMS affiliated club to participate at this event for insurance reasons. Membership cards should be available on request.
As this Quarry is a working quarry and admittance is restricted to persons 16 years of age and over.
Plan to arrive opposite the gate of the quarry at about 8:30 am for your sign in and your vehicle tag in. We will enter the quarry about 9:00 am after our safety talk. Please no late arrivals unless requested in advance.
Canadian Field Trip Information:
Laws have changed recently in Canada for Safety vests and clothing. You will need to update to the appropriate styles to gain entry to Canadian quarries. Please see this link for information or read the attached files.
Please note we must be wearing Class 2 apparel (X on the back). Either a vest or T shirt will suffice. Your hard hats must also have retro-reflective stripes and can be purchased as peel and stick tape at Safety Supply stores, 6” + safety boots and safety glasses with side shields or goggles.

Brantford Lapidary and Mineral Society's first field trip of 2022.
Please see the sign up sheet for the Arkona Field trip to take place on April 30th, 2022. In order to enter the Brampton Brick pits at Hungry Hollow you must be a BLMS or a CCFMS member in order to be covered under the CCFMS insurance. So please include a copy of your membership card along with everyone attending from your family.
Stones and Bones - Sarnia Trip
Trip to the Stones and Bones Museum is tentatively planned for planned for May 28, 2022. Plan is to meet at the Lyndon Park Mall around 8am, carpooling if possible and we may again look into renting 10 person vans dependent on insurance and number of participants.

Museum tour will be guided by one of the owners then members can look on their own at their leisure, there is a small but well stocked store onsite that can also be discovered.
