The Brantford Mineral and Lapidary Society, a not for profit organization, along with other CCFMS member Clubs, who all share an interest in rocks, mineral’s and fossils and we all are working towards promoting our hobby of rock, mineral and fossil collecting, lapidary, and jewellery making.. Meetings are held monthly, with the exception of the summer months of July and August. Our club offers friendly and knowledgeable insight about rocks, minerals and fossils, a club lapidary workshop which members may use for a small fee, and field trips for collecting and/or studying specimens.
We are a incorporated non-profit organization which is lead by a volunteer-based board of directors. Meetings are held monthly, except for the summer months of July and August, on the third Friday of each month.
Meetings are held from 7pm to approximately 9pm depending on speaker presentations, normally a short club business section then the presentation. Presentations cover a wide range of topics from Opal mining in Australia to making mosaics to jewellery wrapping to mining Herkimer diamonds, come to a meeting and enjoy being entertained, everyone is welcome to come check us out.
The Telephone City Crystal, our newsletter, is published January through to June then from September to December and will be emailed to all current members and will be available on our website. Our Newsletters cover a wide range of topics from local minerals and collecting sites to Canadian and World collecting site, how to articles, member trips and so much more.
Meetings are held in-person at the T.B. Costain/S.C. Johnson Community Centre at 16 Morell St., Brantford Ontario or via Zoom meetings.
Our workshop is located at 125 Stanley St Unit 5 in Brantford Ontario (back of plaza) While normally only open to members, the First visit is free for non or other members of clubs under the CCFMS umbrella.
Our Spring Gem and Mineral show is an annual event held in early April at the Paris Fairgrounds. It is always very well attended with many local vendors as well as vendors from across Ontario and the country, even few from the USA. Everything is available under one roof, Jewellery, Specimens, Fossils, interactive displays for children like the great mining adventure, discovering fossil fish with the University of Waterloo. Club displays and demonstrations and a silent auction where you can pick up amazing deals.
Membership yearly fees are $30 for individuals or $35 for a family and are active from the beginning of January to the end of December. New members are always welcome, come out to one of our meetings and check us out, or make your first visit to our workshop and see how you enjoy the experience.
